Meet Ken Casorso

Human Resources Advisor, Vancouver General Hospital

How long have you worked at VCH?
I’m in my 6th year at VCH and have worked at both VGH and LGH in my current role.

Your VCH contribution. Tell us what you do at VCH in one sentence.
I currently provide HR support to the Medicine, Surgery and Staffing/Timekeeping services and previously supported the North Shore Community and parts of LGH. Among other things, this involves contract interpretation and assisting with HR related matters raised by managers or staff. I also assist in policy development and implementation, most recently in the effort to make the Smoke Free Premises Policy effective on the VGH campus.

One thing that we might be surprised to find out about you:
I worked as a milkman for 4-years.

Favourite hobby:
Skiing and snowboarding – I’ve been trying to go to at least one new mountain each year, and have made it to 15 throughout BC and the US so far.

Three things you always have in your fridge:
MELONA popsicles, hot sauce and bacon.

What makes you happy?
Traveling to new places. Coming back to my emails makes me unhappy.

Most healthy habit:
I go to the gym, for a while after New Years (but I do it every year) and sometimes resist pouring the crumbs in my mouth when I finish a bag of chips. I do walk home after work on most days…

Favourite vacation spot or place you’ve visited:
The Cyclades islands in Greece: sun, beach and great scenery.
