How long have you worked at VCH?
1 year.

Tell us what you do at VCH in one or two sentences:
I apply lean methodology for improved workflow predominantly in a hospital setting as well as quality work with the Quality and Patient Safety team. I recently completed an infection prevention project at Lions Gate Hospital and am now shifting gears toward working with VCH Accreditation.

What’s your favourite thing about your work?
The flexibility to try new things and the opportunities to work with fantastic people on very interesting projects. A year ago, I wouldn’t have thought I’d be where I am today.

How does your work contribute to the VCH True North goals?
From a lean perspective, we try to tailor the delivery of care to maximize the amount of value addedness (that’s a word!) for the patients that enter our system; creating a people’s first environment. Further, to create this people’s first environment for the patient, it is imperative to create an environment which contributes to the development of the best workforce so that they can provide the best care. I hope to contribute to this every day.

One thing we might be surprised to learn about you:
I had a yellow lovebird from early elementary school to my last year of university. His name was Mango. He was probably pretty educated.. we studied together all the time.

Three things you always have in your fridge:
Blueberries, white wine and ketchup.

Who or what inspires you?
Road cyclists. Long races and long climbs push people to their maximum and it inspires me to see this while their minds are probably telling them to stop but they keep on going just to reach their goal. It’s a good metaphor to me for a lot of things.

Most healthy habit:
Eating in moderation (except donuts..) and cycling.

Favourite vacation spot:
To date, I’d have to say St. Maarten. If you google ‘St Maarten airport’, you’ll know why!
