Jennifer Honey

Job Title
Nurse Practitioner

Department/Location
North Shore Home & Community Care

How long have you worked at VCH?
Four years.

Tell us what you do at VCH in one or two sentences:
I provide home-based primary care for frail, home-bound seniors on the North Shore who are unable to connect with their usual providers in an effort to prevent unnecessary emergency room visits.

What’s your favourite thing about your work?
Meeting new people and families everyday -and my colleagues!

How does your work contribute to the VCH True North goals?
This role promotes better health for our communities by meeting people where they are at and provides the best care for seniors in the most appropriate location.

One thing we might be surprised to learn about you:
The top joints of my thumbs don’t bend.

Three things you always have in your fridge:
Island Farms 1% Cottage Cheese, MacIntosh apples and nutritional yeast (for my popcorn!!).

Who or what inspires you?
The way people come together after a tragedy or disaster. Sometimes, we can get crabby and cynical and selfish about strangers and other peoples business, then something like the Ft Mac fires happen and people are tripping over each other to help.  Door are open, food is flowing, and and the same people are hugging in the street. Its hopeful.

Most healthy habit:
Mountain biking!

Ride safely!

… and I have a big glass of water and a eat a wholesome healthy breakfast everyday.

Favourite vacation spot:
At the moment, it’s camping in Squamish.  I love the culture and pace, and the wide open spaces.  We bring our bikes and our SORCA passes and ride all over.  Tomorrow it may be somewhere else that I haven’t been yet!
