How long have you worked at VCH?
Since June 2016 as a Registered Nurse.

Tell us what you do at VCH in one or two sentences:
I have the joy to be one of the front-line workers, interacting directly with patients! I also mediate between patients and all other healthcare providers, knowing how to advocate for peoples needs is very important,  but the most important description of my job, is to care and be caring. And that is what makes nursing such a rewarding career!

What’s your favourite thing about your work?
Honestly, I have so many. I love intense situations where patients at one point are very sick, all the members of the healthcare team get together and the patient becomes well again. It is just so rewarding and satisfying knowing you get to be apart of someones life is such an intimate way. One memory that does stick out for me is a patient who was in the hospital for almost 7 weeks and I received the pleasure of being his nurse for most of his stay. I was able to provide care and help him through his struggles of becoming well, whether it be giving him antibiotics or listening to his concerns. On his discharge day he said to me “I will miss you most of all”. It touched my heart. I felt like I did my job as a nurse.

Which True North goal does your work contribute to the most?
Provide the best care.

One thing we might be surprised to learn about you:
I found a new love of dirt-biking and just bought hot pink and black dirt-biking boots and helmet. So much fun!

Who or what inspires you?
My friend Colleen is an amazing nurse and friend, she always inspires me to learn, research and continuous pursuit of knowledge! My faith always inspires me to go the extra mile for people and live a life that shows others they are loved. Also, the men and women that work on the Medicine unit, they are always working so hard to make patient care great and the teamwork is phenomenal, I never feel alone.

Most healthy habit:
I think it is very healthy to take time to reconnect with friends and family, it helps ground you and re-energizes you before the next work shift begins! I also think exercise and eating healthy keeps me feel my best!

Favourite vacation spot:
I love Cape Scott! It is very peaceful, great exercise, and the most amazing scenery you could ask for! And if you’re there at the right time of year, you get to enjoy whale-watching! (Also, North Carolina has the most amazing southern charm and beaches!)
