People First award winner: Dr. Kendall Ho

We’re thrilled to profile Dr. Kendall Ho. Dr. Ho won the Award of Excellence in Innovation in this year’s People First Awards.

Tell us what you do at VCH in one or two sentences:
I work at the emergency department to treat patients. I conduct clinical research in VCH on digital health – using technologies to improve patient care.

I am a member of the BC Emergency Network Management Committee, overseeing the real-time clinical support pillar in terms of planning and implementation. I am also the executive director of the Inter-Cultural Online health Network (iCON).


What’s your favourite thing about your work?
Seeing the relief on patients’ faces, expressed in many different ways, in the emergency department when I discharge them home.


Which True North goal does your work contribute to the most?
Innovate for sustainability.


One thing we might be surprised to learn about you:
I am a foodie and I love to eat.


Three things you always have in your fridge:
Yogurt, Japanese salad dressing, Chinese cooking sauces.


Who or what inspires you?
Human ingenuity that leads to unprecedented ideas to address society problems or sufferings – seeing unanticipated wisdom in action.


Most healthy habit:
Walk as much as I can, taking stairs, achieving 10,000 steps per day as best I can.


Favourite vacation spot:
Whistler: easy to get to, relatively inexpensive, highly relaxing, wonderful memories.
