Sunny Oh

Job Title
Communications coordinator and regional editor for VCH News, the staff newsletter that you are reading right now.

Department/Location
Communications and Public Affairs

How long have you worked at VCH?
10 months

Tell us what you do at VCH in one or two sentences:
I edit and write regional stories for VCH News, using, of course, best practices for web writing.

I’m also part of the intranet renewal project. I use digital design and story-telling to keep staff informed, engaged, and inspired. I use less acronyms than most VCH staff, but the hot lingo in my field includes the words content, key message, bounce rate, and user journey.

What’s your favourite thing about your work?
My favourite moments are the smaller moments at work: your coworker answers your question with patience even though you’ve asked for the millionth time; everyone laughing at a meeting. Of course, any day that someone brings in treats is a good day.

Which True North goal does your work contribute to the most?
Develop the best workforce

One thing we might be surprised to learn about you:
I used to write for kids animation.

Three things you always have in your fridge:
Kimchi, pungent cheeses, and a rotating mix of leafy greens. If you can’t smell the kimchi or the cheese from a foot away, it’s not worth eating.

Who or what inspires you?
Everyone, but the People First award winners, women who write, my partner and my sisters add sparkle-fizz to my life.

Most healthy habit:
Eating vegetables every day even though I eat dessert every day.

Reading non-fiction, fiction, and poetry to explore new ideas and stay entertained.

Favourite vacation spot:
My favourite vacation spots are linked to family. My mom is from Jeonju, South Korea, and it’s one of the agricultural and culinary capitals of the country. My partner’s family is from Brittany, the celtic province of France.

On trips, I like balancing my time between being active and being lazy: challenging mountain hikes followed by genteel seaside walks, hanging out with large groups of people and then watching the sunset alone, thinking nothing at all.
