People First award winner: Mo Gaffney

We’re thrilled to profile Mo Gaffney. Mo won the Award of Merit in the Patient-Centre Care category in this year’s People First Awards.

Tell us what you do at VCH in one or two sentences:
I am a community health nurse at DCHC working with an interprofessional team of committed care givers. In July, I take a one year coordinator position at the Alexander Street Community transitional program.


What’s your favourite thing about your work?
The art show Gallery Gachet produced for one of our clients and that our team came out in strong support for.


Which True North goal does your work contribute to the most?
Promote better health for our communities


One thing we might be surprised to learn about you:
Most people know I love the polar bear swim.


Three things you always have in your fridge:
Yogurt, greens, tofu.


Who or what inspires you?
My son, my team, our clients.


Most healthy habit:
Swimming in the fast lane at Kits pool.


Favourite vacation spot:
Chesterman Beach, Tofino.
