Congratulations to the 190 people in Richmond who reached a service milestone in 2012. Recipients of the coveted service pin include Agnes a community health worker who cares deeply about keeping the elderly well in their homes, and Kitty, a registered nurse in Critical Care, who knew she wanted to be a nurse since she was 5 years old!

Social Workers across Richmond are celebrating Social Work Week by giving purple carnations to patients, long term care residents and their visiting family members to brighten up their day.

Hong Kong celebrities Wu Fung (胡楓), Eddy Ko (高雄), and Elaine Chow (周秀蘭) performed in Richmond on February 24th at a special “Chinese New Year Superstar Charity Dinner” (歡樂今宵：巨星熱舞元宵夜慈善晚). The sell-out event raised $13,800 in donations for Richmond Hospital Foundation.

Twenty five seniors had a reason to smile after taking part last weekend in the Seniors’ Free Dental Clinic at Richmond Hospital, including one person who had not seen a dentist for 30 years!

“Overall, and by national standards, the health of Richmond residents is very good,” said Dr. James Lu, Medical Health Officer, Richmond. “But our survey delved deeper than most, and what it revealed is that we — as health planners — need to pay special attention to the social and economic barriers across the community that prevent adults, youth and children from building healthy habits.”
